I would like to thank you for arranging our meal on the 14th and the excellent hospitality/efficiency and patience shown by your staff on the night. Our continental friends thought the whole evening at a traditional Welsh pub selling traditional beer and cider (of which they tried a few) was really wonderful - being a Camra member I really enjoyed it as well as did all of my party.

IT was a cold and wet Friday night when I crossed the border into South Wales for a weekend in Newport.
I must confess that the city itself is nothing to write home about. The bad weather only served to make it look more grim.
But a multi-million-pound regeneration plan – much like Derby's Cityscape – is changing all that and Newport is ideally placed to explore Cardiff and the surrounding area.
The warm welcome from the Welsh people also more than made up for the wind and rain.
I began my weekend with a a meal and some cider tasting at the Bell Inn, in nearby Caerleon. The pub has a list of awards as long as your arm for its food, real ales and ciders and every one is deserved.
The food – even for a picky vegan like me – was superb and the ales, cider and perry soon soothed away the chills of the night.
The next day and it was off to Tredegar House....
Dear Tony and Ceri,
After one year living at Caerleon and studying at the University, I couldn't forget, on my return, to tell brazilian people about the amazing place you have at The Bell Inn. On this short report (below) published today on 'Muito' magazine (part of 'A Tarde' newspaper from Bahia) I suggest to the reader a complete meal with homemade Cider, lamb with mint sauce and veg and cheesecake on cream... one of the superb delicacies from your menu I had the chance to try.
Best Wishes

Hello,
I spent a memorable evening eating and drinking at your pub recently
whilst visiting relations in Caerleon. We all enjoyed good food
and excellent beer and now that one of those relations is to be
50 years old this month, I would like to do a repeat trip and
celebrate this horrendous event at your place.
Best regards,
Jeff

Hi
Tony,
Just a quick thankyou for the cider/Owain Glyndwr night. The feedback
from the crowd was so positive-everything from the talk to the
cider menu. The food and service throughout the night was exceptional
and certainly the best we have experenced in our 10 years in Newport.
Thankyou
also for your correspondance in the build up. A great evening
and I hope sincerely the weekend was a success for all at "The
Bell",
Diolch
yn fawr,

Dear Tony and Ceri,
I just wanted to say thank you for my birthday "repas" on Thursday January 3rd.
Olly drove me to Caerleon, where we picked up two more dancers in Gwerinwyr Gwent (Sue and Alun). I opted for Tim Taylor's Landlord, followed by Bath Ales' Gem - the Rhymney Export looked very tempting, too. I had a delicious Cotriade Breizh for starters, with mouth-watering steak covered by chicken and herb creations with a cheese sauce to finish. I really love the Muscadet Sur Lie, a sharp and flavoursome wine which went down a treat - at the end of November, the Bretons celebrate with Muscadet Nouveau, their equivalent of Beaujolais Nouveau. It looks like watery milk and tastes all right. We had to forego the cheese; we were so stuffed, and Sue and Alun invited us back for a cheese medley (Caerffili, smoked and Stilton, washed down to port.)
After the meal, Mike (melodeon player, member of Gwerinwyr Gwent and a lover of real ale) came into the restaurant and wished me many happy returns. It was a fabulous birthday treat, which was perfected by by your good selves. The service was first class. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
